Feedback from the People’s Emergency Briefing film screened in the Church on 12 May

As part of its eco-church remit, Lympstone Church hosted a screening of the film People’s Emergency Briefing on 12thMay. The 50-minute film presents excerpts from talks given by nine experts to an invited audience of 1,200 politicians and other key leaders in Westminster Hall in November 2025. Topics ranged from weather and climate to global tipping points, impacts on food security, health, economics and national security.

The experts’ clips are interspersed with the reactions of celebrities and members of the public watching the film, moderated by Chris Packham. The film brings home the immediacy of the need to address the climate and nature crises and how they are already impacting our daily lives. They leave no doubt about the gravity of the position but the experts also demonstrate that there are many positive solutions available to tackle the crises.

After watching the film, the Lympstone audience then broke into small groups to discuss their reactions to the film, followed by an open facilitated discussion. This included a panel made up of local experts and groups involved with nature, water quality and flood resilience. It was clear that the film had a big impact on people, many of whom said much of it was new to them and that it needed to reach the widest possible audience. People were keen to know how they could reduce their carbon footprint, recognising that every little bit helps. A clear part of the discussion was how local people can work together and encourage our MP to back the Parliamentary Call for a national televised emergency briefing.

The film was a powerful call to action, urging humanity to embrace a more sustainable and just way of living in harmony with creation. What felt important was not only the film, but the sense of a community beginning to form around facing these questions together. The event closed with a prayer reminding us of the importance of church leadership as part of its witness to growing God’s Kingdom across our world.

The Bible Course

Explore God’s big story one step at a time with The Bible Course with materials provided by The Bible Society. It’s an eight-session course that uses a visual storyline helping us understand the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. The Bible’s stories, characters and themes are highlighted and explained to show how they fit together and apply to our lives.

There is an attractive course manual to go alongside the eight videos which form the centre piece of each session. Each session should last 90 minutes with plenty of time for discussion.

Please contact Richard Scott (rosandrichard@btinternet.com 07753 881517) if you are interested in joining him on this course by 1st June. He will then contact you to find mutually convenient venue, times and dates. Thank you.

Men’s Breakfast – Saturday 13 June

I received the subject of the talk by Tim Lear at he next men’s breakfast just too late for inclusion on the Worship Weekly sheet. Time will be talking on: ‘My Journey to Ecumenism and Some Things about Tim’.

A La Ronde, National Trust – Locals Go Free Thursday 28 May

Heather Stratford, a valued member of our congregation, also volunteers for the National Trust at A La Ronde. She has brought to my attention that on Thursday 28 May, local people who aren’t National Trust members, can visit A La Ronde free, just as long as you bring along proof of address (of which EX8 is considered local!). I realise that this is not specifically ‘church-related’, but it is always good to support locally.

Lympstone Patronal Festival – Sunday 6 September 2026

Requests for Prayers to be said – A message from Chris Kleinstuber

If you would like prayers to be said during a Sunday service and/or at the Thursday Prayer Group for a friend or relative needing prayer, please send an email to PrayersLymCh@excc.church. Alternatively, those who don’t want to email can post a message in the Prayer Requests Box at the Church entrance using the supply of cards attached to the box.  In both instances, please include your name so that we can verify the request.

If you would prefer prayers to be said privately, rather than in the services, please request the prayers to be said at the Thursday Prayer Group ONLY.   Prayers said in this meeting are confidential and will be said every Thursday while the group feels it is still necessary.  If you have any questions or feel you would like to join the group, please speak to Chris Kleinstuber, who leads the Prayer Group each Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Lady Chapel.
