Our church building is not only of unique historical interest, but also a superb venue for many different sorts of event.

It is easily the largest building in the village, has fine acoustics for speaking, as well as for instrumental and choral concerts, and is well heated. There is a mix of pews and chairs and can seat up to 250 people.

It is also a very light church with beautiful stained glass so that whatever the time of day it provides a great ambience for an event.

By special arrangement the overhead projector and sound system can be made available. There is a small catering area and toilets. A dedicated car park provides off- street parking for 25 cars.

For more information please contact 01395 263681 or {email_encode:office@exmouthcoastalchurches.org.uk,link=email our office}.

Bell Ringing

Originally built in Norman times, the present tower dates from 1409 and stands proudly visible across the village. It houses 7 bells which are rung by our friendly group of bellringers every Sunday to welcome people to both the 8.00 am and 9.30 am services and of course to the great festival services. They are also rung to celebrate state occasions.

The ringers also meet every week on a Wednesday evening starting at 7pm for a practice, lots of laughs and chats, while (importantly) continuing to develop their technique.

We are also pleased to host visiting bellringing groups and as part of competitions.

You are warmly invited to get in touch at Bells@lympstonechurch.org if you would like to learn and master the arts of bell ringing!

Coffee Mornings

Coffee mornings are a good way of getting to know friends and neighbours a little better, and provide a social occasion for those looking to enjoy some company. In addition, these friendly gatherings can be a way of introducing neighbours to friends at church who they might otherwise not meet.

We hold a coffee morning once a month in different homes around the village and are always happy to add another suitable venue to our list.

Details of dates and venues are advertised a week or two in advance in Events and through the church’s news sheet Worship Weekly.

Some years, from late July till early September the church runs a fresh produce stall on Saturday mornings under the railway arch by the station in the centre of the village.

Members of the village and of the church donate produce of many kinds to this stall and the proceeds are shared out to local and national charities

You have to be quick, though. Home-made cakes and freshly picked fruit and vegetables tend to go in a flash!

The money collected is donated to local and national charities.

As part of our congregation’s community outreach we seek to support families and individuals in need: those with no food in the house, no money to buy food as well as those being overwhelmed by increasing cost of household bills.

We encourage the donation of food by villagers at collection points in the church and village shop.

Community Lunch

Lympstone village is an amazing community and the Community Hub is part of Lympstone Parish Council. It is a cross-section of community-minded villagers that facilitates and funds local community events.

Among other activities volunteers organise a monthly Sunday lunch in a community hall.

Food is cooked by volunteers and either delivered to people’s homes or served in the hall.

The church has no formal ties with the Community Lunch but several church members are pleased to assist with these lunches. In 2024 our Harvest Festival offerings were donated to the Hub for distribution to those who enjoy the Community Lunches.

Eco Church & Churchyard

Church

In accordance with our Christian faith, we believe we have a responsibility to be good stewards of God’s beautiful world. This belief is reflected in how we seek to run our church.

In our worship, teaching, community and global engagement, we seek to promote climate-friendly lifestyles.

Measures are taken to manage the impact of our building and churchyard on the environment, for example by the use of renewable energy fueled by solar panels on the roof of our church.

Churchyard

We also have a specialist plan to enhance biodiversity in our churchyard. A group of volunteers from the church and the village meet to plan the maintenance of the churchyard.

Our efforts to be good environmental stewards have resulted in Lympstone Church being given a Silver Eco Church Award.

Friends of the Church

The church is the oldest building in the village and is much loved. As you would expect for a building of such size and age it requires significant maintenance. We are very grateful for the members of the church and many villagers who help raise funds through events held by the Friends.

These funds are donated by the Friends to the church solely for the maintenance of the fabric.

Local Schools

The church is directly concerned with local education. The Rector is ex-officio a governor of Lympstone Church of England Primary School and he, or (in his place) a member of the church with educational expertise attends governors' meetings. When opportunities arise to take assemblies or go into classes we take these up.

The Primary School holds assemblies and services in the church on a regular basis and the clergy attend these as appropriate.

The Beacon School in Exmouth is another Church School within the Mission Community. Its current head is a member of the church.

Many children from Lympstone Primary School go on to Exmouth College where the Mission Community has appointed a Chaplain.
